Reduced Pressure on a Worldwide Food Shortage

In the spirit of the Victory Garden program during World War II, independencegarden.org is promoting the planting of home and community vegetable and fruit gardens to help you and your planet.

After the bombing of Pearl Harbor in 1941, the US Secretary of Agriculture, Claude, R. Wickard , came up with the idea of the “Victory Garden”.  By 1943 over 20.5 million Victory Gardens produced more than 40% of the vegetables eaten in the United States.  The US Federal Government gave away over 18 billion canning jars to help the effort!  The population was eating healthier foods and taking the burden of food consumption off of the war effort.

With the rising cost of fuel, food, and petrochemicals in both direct and social costs, it only makes sense to produce food in your own yard or a local community garden.

A recent news article claimed that we are currently sending 1/3 of our corn production to our gas tanks.  This is creating a world food shortage that will critically effect over 100 million people worldwide.

Join us by starting a grass roots movement to tell Washington we are tired of the $4.00 and $5.00 gallon of gas, and we want to reduce our fuel consumption by planting our own Independence Garden.

email the White House about your Independence Garden   They may not respond, but you will be heard.  This goes to Dick Cheney's staff.  He runs the place.
