What Should I do as a homeowner?

 

Reduce the beetle population in your area

Identify the currently infested beetle trees on your property
Cut down and remove or treat beetle infested trees before the beetles fly in July
Chip or scatter resulting brush

 

Preventive spray your favorite trees

Beetles hit pine trees over 5 to 6 inches in diameter
Preventive spraying can be hired out at about $10 per tree, or applied by the    homeowner for $2 to $3 per tree

Be a responsible steward of your land by managing your forest for future health

Hire a qualified forester to evaluate your forest health
Initiate a Forest Management Plan
Budget for management activities that will improve your piece of the forest
